UN: Economic growth in Georgia and other countries of the region

UN has published the world economic outlook for the next year. In the current year, the United Nations is expecting 3% economic growth in the world, which is the highest rate since 2011. Forecast for last year was 2,4%. In the years of 2018-2019, UN is expecting 3% economic growth in the world.

The United Nations is forecasting 4,3% economic growth in Georgia next year.

UN forecast for the countries of the region is as follows: 

Azerbaijan – 1,8%

Kazakhstan – 3%

Russia – 1,9%

Turkmenistan – 1,8%

Uzbekistan – 6,4%

Armenia – 3,8%

Belarus – 2%

Ukraine – 2,5%

Tajikistan – 6%

Kirgizstan – 5,8%

According to UN’s forecast, next year in Georgia inflation rate will decrease to 3%. For Azerbaijan, inflation forecast is 5,9%, for Armenia – 2,9% and for Russia – 4,4%.

As UN reports, in Georgia, the unemployment rate in the current year was 11,4%, which, compared to the countries of the Confederation of Independent States is one of the highest rates. Namely, in Armenia the unemployment rate is 16,6%, in Azerbaijan – 5,2%, in Kazakhstan – 5,4%, in Kirgizstan – 7,7%, in Moldova – 4,4%, in Russia – 5,8%, in Tajikistan – 2,3%, in Turkmenistan – 8,6%, in Ukraine – 8,8% and in Uzbekistan – 5,0%.

Georgia left CIS in 2009, however, based on geographic and economic structure, Georgia is still considered within this group.
