The Average Salary of the Employed Segment of the Georgian Population

The average monthly income of 46% of physical persons who are employed amounts to 400 GEL a month, whereas the income of 1% of this population comes to more than 8,333 GEL.

According to the electronic information system of the Revenue Service of Georgia, only 1,222,153 citizens,  declared their income in 2017. Research from PMC shows that the average monthly income of 46% of physical persons who are employed amounts to 400 GEL a month, whereas the income of 1% of this population comes to more than 8,333 GEL.

For for 74% (914,227 people) of the population, their income was on average less than 1,000 GEL per month in 2017, whereas 26% (307,926 people) had more than a 1,000 GEL income during the same period.

In spite of the growth of the average nominal salary, there is a significant difference in the salaries depending on the persons type of economic work.

In 2017, there were three highly paid sectors: financial and insurance jobs (2,008 GEL), professional, scientific and technical jobs (1,595 GEL) and construction work (1,466 GEL). The lowest payments were seen in the following sectors: location and food distribution jobs (672 GEL), agriculture (643 GEL) and education (577 GEL). To put it simply,  2% of the population are employed in the highest paid sectors, whereas 52% of the employed population are concentrated in the two lowest paid sectors.
