In which regions of Georgia do the poorest people live

From the beginning of the year, the number of beneficiaries receiving subsistent allowance increased

by 25 172 people and reached almost half a million.

According to the Social Service Agency data, 12.5% of the population of Georgia receive subsistence allowance.

By regions, the number and share of beneficiaries are as follows:

Adjara – 42 061 (12.5%)

Shida Kartli – 47 048 (17.8%)

Kvemo Kartli – 46 649 (11%)

Samtskhe – Javakheti – 11 756 (7.3%)

Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 56 657 (17.1%)

Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 15 393 (16.3%)

Imereti – 64 771 (12.1%)

Kakheti – 49 795 (15.6%)

Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 13 444 (42.3%)

Guria – 18 798 (16.6%)

Tbilisi – 100 907 (9%)

Subsistence allowance, or Targeted Social Assistance is a cash payment that aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of families on the verge of poverty, which are identified by the assessment system.

In May, the State has issued GEL 27.7 million subsistence allowance and since the beginning of 2019 to the end of May, more than 135 million GEL.
