Georgia ranks 12th in the world in terms of tourist growth rates

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) publishes a 2018 survey on the number of tourists worldwide. According to the survey, last year by the number of tourists Georgia was 12th in the world and 4th in the European region.

According to the survey, 4.7 million tourists visited Georgia last year, which is 16.9% more than the previous year. Only 11 countries had higher growth rates than Georgia worldwide and 4 countries in Europe.

Last year, higher growth was recorded in the following countries:

• Tajikistan – 190.1%

• Slovenia – 23.4%

• Turkey – 21.7%

• Vietnam – 19.9%

• Iran – 49.9%

• Nepal – 24.8%

• Ecuador – 51%

• Comoros – 28.2%

• Uganda – 31.9%

• Egypt – 36.8%

• Palestine – 20.5%

The exact number of tourists in Georgia equaled 4,756,820 in 2018, which is more by 687,466 tourists compared to 2017.

The share of tourism in Georgia`s GDP in the first three quarters of 2018 was 7.6%.

In 2018, France is leading with 89 million tourists. By tourism revenues, the leader is the United States with

$214 billion.

Spain ranks second in the world by a number of tourists (83 million) and by revenues as well ($74 billion dollars).
