Air traffic between Russia and Georgia is likely to be restored in the first half of 2020

Air traffic between Russia and Georgia is likely to be restored in the first half of 2020. Informed government source has declared about this to “Izvestia”.

According to publication, the political crisis in the republic, which is taking place on the background of mass rallies in the capital, does not allow Russia to resume flights before the New Year.

As Zurab Abashidze, the special representative of the Georgian Prime Minister for relations with Russia, told Izvestia, Tbilisi will definitely welcome the restoration of flights between the countries if such a decision is made.

A few days ago, Moscow Times announced that Russian airlines were ‘desperate’ for compensation from the government after its ban on direct flights to Georgia cost them a combined $50 million (3.2 billion rubles).

To remind, President Vladimir Putin ordered the temporary ban of passenger flights from Russia to Georgia this summer. The Russian government promised at the time to compensate airlines for their losses. Several employees of the airlines do not expect to receive compensation, “these promises will not be fulfilled,” they note.
