The esteemed Marquis Who’s Who has recognized Laszlo Kulcsar, president and founder of Automated Systems Inc. (ASI), for his outstanding contributions to the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. This honor celebrates Mr. Kulcsar’s 47-year career, during which he provided automation and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliance services.

Based in Lake Bluff, Illinois, ASI specializes in systems integration, manufacturing process automation and regulatory compliance solutions for pharmaceutical companies. Under Mr. Kulcsar’s leadership, the company has grown into a trusted partner for pharmaceutical manufacturers of all sizes, from industry giants to small and medium-sized enterprises.

Successfully Adapting to Change

Since founding ASI in 1989, Mr. Kulcsar has successfully steered the company through significant changes in the pharmaceutical industry. “Compliance requirements have changed orders of magnitude,” he reflects, noting how the industry has evolved from basic requirements to sophisticated and document intensive demands.

Rather than resisting change, Mr. Kulcsar embraced new technologies and understood their impact on pharmaceutical manufacturing. With his team of highly skilled professionals, he led ASI on these technological advancements, responding to industry needs, particularly in FDA compliance and automation.

Today, Mr. Kulcsar shares how he plans to expand ASI’s services to specialize in helping pharmaceutical companies navigate more complex regulatory requirements, including FDA Form 483 and Warning Letters.

Expertise Built on Experience

Mr. Kulcsar’s inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who celebrates his ASI leadership and earlier professional experiences. A graduate of a master’s program in electrical engineering from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, his role as Principal Engineer at Abbott Laboratories from 1980 to 1989 gave him clear insights into pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and FDA compliance requirements.

During this period, Mr. Kulcsar developed state-of-the-art engineering solutions and gained firsthand experience in the complexities of pharmaceutical automation. Combined with his earlier role as a senior engineer at Davy McKee Engineering, these positions equipped him with comprehensive knowledge of engineering challenges and industry demands and shaped his leadership at ASI.

In addition, Mr. Kulcsar was also an active member of industry-related organizations such as the International Society of Automation (ISA), the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). These organizations enabled Mr. Kulcsar to understand the engineering and business aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing, adopt emerging technologies and anticipate industry trends.

Values That Drive Success

Mr. Kulcsar’s success at ASI extends beyond technical proficiency, anchored firmly in his belief in honesty and transparency. “My core value is being very upfront and honest. What you see is what you get, which became our company culture,” Mr. Kulcsar emphasizes.

“Our clients love to do business with us because they know they can trust us,” Mr. Kulcsar points out. “That’s why we have many repeat clients.” This straightforward outlook has built deep client trust, leading to numerous long-term relationships.

Beyond business principles, Mr. Kulcsar also focuses on continuous improvement and goal setting. His commitment to growth manifests in various ways: adapting to technological advancements, expanding services to address FDA compliance needs and setting specific financial targets for ASI’s future.

Beyond his professional success, Mr. Kulcsar is also committed to giving back to the community through various philanthropic efforts. He supports military and police organizations, including The American Legion, United Service Organizations Inc., Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Wounded Warrior Project and the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
