John A. Randolph has been included in Marquis Who’s Who for his distinguished reputation in wealth management. He currently excels as the managing director and a private wealth advisor at RBC Wealth Management.
After accepting this role in 2018, Mr. Randolph has demonstrated exceptional leadership. Notably, he has guided his team to a top 5 ranking in the firm while managing more than $1 billion in assets, which he counts as his most substantial professional accomplishment thus far. His individual accomplishments are equally impressive, positioning him among the top 20 producers across the company.
Mr. Randolph’s method of wealth management distinguishes him from his peers. Rather than embracing a transactional model, he has built his practice around a family office services model that emulates the comprehensive planning available to ultra-high-net-worth families. This consultative platform focuses on identifying clients’ goals, objectives and philanthropic aspirations before implementing tailored solutions based on a planning-driven methodology. Mr. Randolph explains, “The commitment to the family office services model has been the differentiator in attracting and retaining significant families and the referrals of their advisors to our practice.”
The Power of Personal Connection in a Digital Age
Despite working in an increasingly technology-driven field, Mr. Randolph has maintained a steadfast dedication to fostering intimate client relationships. He believes that meaningful advisory work cannot be conducted remotely and instead requires what he describes as “eyeball to eyeball” engagement.
Whether sitting at a kitchen table or in a conference room, he prioritizes understanding what truly matters to each client, which in turn informs the consistency and appropriateness of his advice. This hands-on philosophy extends to his team as well, where he emphasizes leading by example to maintain repeatable, scalable and high-performing processes for every client engagement.
Championing the Next Generation and Industry Evolution
Mentoring the next generation of advisors receives considerable emphasis from Mr. Randolph, who recognizes that a successful business depends on coaching emerging talent for seamless transitions between generations. His team reflects this dedication to evolving demographics and workplace dynamics, as he has intentionally cultivated a diverse advisory group, including two female advisors, to better align with who’s making financial decisions in client households. Mr. Randolph articulates his philosophy on success simply: “It’s not necessarily about me. It’s much more about the client outcome.”
Before progressing to his current position, Mr. Randolph thrived as a senior vice president of wealth management at UBS from 2010 to 2018. During this period, he gained critical knowledge in financial strategy and client relations, forging a distinct reputation as an expert in his field. The prestigious Top Producer Award recognized Mr. Randolph’s deep dedication to excellence, reflecting his passion for delivering outstanding results for his clients.
From 2003 to 2010, Mr. Randolph served as a first vice president of investments and resident director at Merrill Lynch, collaborating in the oversight of investment strategies and fostering productive client relationships. He initiated his career in the corporate sector as the director of sales at Mercury Marine from 1993 to 1999, which provided him with a strong foundation in sales and business development. His transition into financial services came through recognition of his sales acumen; within nine months, he secured a major client, and by the end of his first year in the industry, he had gathered $70 million in client assets.
Mr. Randolph’s academic achievements are impressive. He is a graduate of Denison University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1984. Industry certifications strengthened Mr. Randolph’s presence in the field, including the Certified Private Wealth Advisor designation from the Investments and Wealth Institute in 2015 and the Certified Investment Management Analyst credentials from the same institute in 2005. Additionally, he holds Series 7 and Series 66 certifications, which further define his professional profile.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Randolph maintains active membership in organizations such as Alpha Tau Omega and the Investments and Wealth Institute, evidence of his dedication to staying current in industry trends and best practices. He values spending time with his family and achieves balance by playing golf and fly fishing.
