Cargo Turnover Diminishing Again Within The Georgian Corridor

Within the first 10 months of 2017, the volume of cargo shipped by transport sector was 33,4 mln tons, which is 900 000 tons less than within the same period last year.

The volume of cargo handled in sea ports and terminals also decreased and made 13,5 mln tons over the period from January and October, instead of 14,6 mln tons handled last year. However, the number of containers handled in sea ports during 10 months of the year, increased and amounted to 316 879 TEU units.

Cargo turnover of the Georgian Railway has also declined and made 8,8 mln tons within the period of 10 months, which is 1,2 mln tons less, compared to the same period of the last year.

During the 10 months of the year, the biggest volume of cargo was handled by Poti sea port – 5,6 mln tons, which is 0,4 mln tons more than in the same period last year. 3,5 mln tons of cargo was handled by Batumi sea port, which is 1,1 mln tons less than last year. 0,4 mln tons less was handled by Supsa sea terminal and its volume made 3,1 mln tons within the ten-month period. Kulevi sea terminal handled 1,4 mln tons of cargo within the period of January-October, 2017.
