VS1 Partners with the XRP Ledger Foundation to Build the Open Standard for Institutional Tokenized Credit

A Georgian company, a global infrastructure role. VS1 Finance, a Tbilisi-based financial technology company building infrastructure for tokenized capital markets, has been selected by the XRP Ledger Foundation to build an open-source reference implementation for institutional-grade lending on the XRP Ledger. The engagement makes VS1 one of the reference builders shaping how regulated financial products will operate on public blockchain infrastructure in the years ahead.

About VS1. Founded in Tbilisi, VS1 Finance builds the technology rails that let financial institutions issue, distribute, and manage tokenized versions of traditional financial products, starting with corporate bonds. Tokenization, in practical terms, means representing a financial asset on a public, tamper-resistant ledger so that settlement is faster, ownership is transparent, and lifecycle events like coupon payments happen automatically. VS1’s platform is built on the XRP Ledger, one of the longest-running institutional-grade blockchains in the world.

The company operates a partnership model with licensed intermediaries: regulated actions such as securities distribution are performed by VS1’s broker-dealer partner, while VS1 provides the technology layer. VS1 is also preparing to enter the tokenization regulatory sandbox created by the National Bank of Georgia as the first platform admitted under the framework – a milestone that positions Georgia among the earliest jurisdictions globally to formally test tokenized securities under central-bank oversight.

On June 29, the XRP Ledger Foundation announced that it is partnering with VS1 to build an open-source reference application for permissioned, compliant lending on the XRP Ledger. The reference combines four newly available capabilities (such as Vaults and Multi Purpose Tokens) into a single framework that any team building institutional credit products on XRPL can adopt without starting from zero.

For the ecosystem, the significance is that this becomes the canonical example. For VS1, it is a validation of the company’s FinTech expertise: the Foundation reviews multiple contenders when awarding reference builds, and the selection reflects VS1’s prior work on the XRPL vault and lending primitives, its live decentralized exchange at vs1.finance, and its production-grade issuance flows for tokenized bonds.

The bigger picture: why lending matters after issuance. Earlier this year, VS1 published its thesis on how bond tokenization on XRPL unlocks a step-change beyond faster settlement (full article). Issuing and distributing a bond on-chain is only the first step. The larger opportunity is what happens afterwards: institutions gain the ability to borrow against tokenized assets they hold, and those assets reach a broader pool of investors through open, programmable distribution channels. Lending is the primitive that unlocks both.

“The region has an unusual opportunity here. We are an early mover in rebuilding how capital markets actually work – faster settlement, transparent issuance, more efficient secondary markets – rather than importing the model years after it matures elsewhere. That is what we are building at VS1,” said Mikheil Didebulidze, Co-founder and CEO of VS1.

What comes next. VS1 will deliver the XRP Ledger Foundation implementation over the next few weeks. In parallel, the company continues to advance its tokenized bond product with issuers across the CEEMEA region, and is preparing its first live issuances under the National Bank of Georgia’s tokenization sandbox.
