Dr. Shankargouda Patil has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. Marquis Who’s Who chooses individuals based on the current reference value for their biographical volumes. Dr. Patil is a full professor at the College of Dental Medicine, Roseman University of Health Sciences in South Jordan, Utah, where he has contributed to the dentistry field since 2022. He has more than 15 years of experience in higher education and is known for his dedication to dental education and research. Dr. Patil has also committed to organizing research mentorship programs and successfully guiding students into dental residencies.

Before joining the staff in Utah, Dr. Patil served as an associate professor at the College of Dentistry at Jazan University in Saudi Arabia from 2016 to 2022. His earlier tenure as an associate professor at the faculty of dental sciences at MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences in India between 2012 and 2015 and as a senior lecturer at KLE Institute of Dental Sciences in India from 2009 to 2012 was also instrumental in his success as a dedicated educator and researcher.
Dr. Patil’s extensive academic journey is marked by significant achievements, including a Bachelor of Science in dental surgery from P M Nadagouda Memorial Dental College & Hospital in 2003, a Master of Science in dental surgery with a focus on oral and maxillofacial pathology from Sree Balaji Dental College in India in 2009 and a PhD in medical biotechnology from the University of Siena in Italy in 2019.
Dr. Patil’s certifications from the CITI Program in biomedical research and good clinical practice for clinical trials further underscore his commitment to maintaining high research standards.
Pioneering Research and Scientific Recognition
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Patil has collaborated on a $2 million National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute grant to explore the use of photodynamic therapy on oral cancer.
Dr. Patil’s contributions to the field include more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and more than 19,000 Google Scholar citations. Stanford University researchers have ranked Dr. Patil among the top 2% of scientists across all disciplines, and he is a member of the prestigious Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society.
“The field of dentistry is rapidly evolving with the integration of artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality,” Dr. Patil explained. “These technologies enhance our clinical practice and revolutionize how we approach dental education.”
Dr. Patil has received numerous professional recognitions, including fellowships from the Royal College of Pathologists, the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and, most recently, the American Dental Education Association.
Innovation and Advocacy in Dental Sciences
Deeply concerned about climate change’s impact on dental practice, Dr. Patil has contributed editorial content to the Journal of the American Dental Association and has initiated a committee on sustainability in dentistry at his dental school. Dr. Patil is currently focused on developing environmentally friendly materials for dental use and creating a virtual reality classroom aimed at transforming dental education delivery.
“I believe that, in addition to advancing our field technically, we have a responsibility to give back to nature and society,” commented Dr. Patil. “Sustainable practices in dentistry are not just beneficial—they are essential for our future.”
In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Patil is actively involved as a professional member of the American Association of Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research, the American Dental Education Association and the International Association of Oral Pathology. Dr. Patil has advocated for continued funding for key areas in dentistry during meetings with Senator Mike Lee’s staff in Washington, DC.
Dr. Patil is also involved in community outreach programs to educate individuals about oral hygiene and sponsors fundraisers for an orphanage in India, reflecting his dedication to giving back to society. When not engaged in professional activities, Dr. Patil enjoys wildlife photography, hiking, visiting mountains and lakes and spending quality time with his family.
Dr. Patil attributes his success to determination, hard work, patience, perseverance and consistency. His ability to adapt quickly to changes in research and technology has been instrumental in maintaining his position at the forefront of dental education and research.
