In the first half of the year, railway freight turnover decreased

Over 6 months of 2017, the Georgian Railway transported 5,799,378 tons of cargo, which is 500 000 tons less than within the same period of the previous year. Out of this amount, 905,336 tons was the share of local freight and 495,299 tons – the share of export. Over the 6 months of the year, the volume of imported freight made 1,212,578 tons, volume of transit was 2,687,180 tons, which is 332 000 tons less than the previous value.

The volume of shipped crude oil and oil products has also decreased. Over the period of 6 months, the Georgian Railway transported 2,3 mln tons of oil products, which is 0,2 mln tons less than within the same period of the previous year.

The volume of transported grain has slightly increased and made 156,634 tons. The figure for sugar transportation has also decreased and within 6 months, it made 220,777 tons.

In the first half of the year, the volume of iron and manganese ore transported by the Georgian Railway made 162,999 tons.

The figure for transportation of non-ferrous metal ore has slightly increased and made 244,902 tons.

Over the 6 months of 2017, the Georgian Railway has transported 15,676 TEU containers.
