In 2018 the Influx of Aviation Passengers Grew by 23.5%; Wizzair Became the Leader of the Market

According to the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, during the past year (2018) Georgian airports in total served 5,033,323 passengers. Compared to 2017, the passenger load has increased by 23.55% and compared to 2016 has increased by 77.20%.

The Tbilisi International Airport served 3,808,619 passengers, which is 20.37% (644,480 passengers) more than in 2017.

598,891 passengers traveled through the Batumi International Airport, which is an increase of  20.83% (103, 223 passengers) when compared to 2017. The number of passengers traveling through the Kutaisi International Airport grew by 52.37%, totaling 617,373 passengers – 212,200 more passengers than in 2017.

In regard to the share of aviation companies roles in Georgia’s aviation market: based on the data from 2018 three aviation companies are in the lead: Wizzair, Turkish Airlines, and Georgian Airways. The difference in the number of passengers for each of these aviation companies is fairly insignificant. Wizzair served the largest number of passengers (587,179), making the Hungarian low budget aviation company the leader of the market.
