The Number of Internet Users is growing in Georgia

During the course of the last three months, 65% of the population in Georgia has used the internet, of this, 1.3% last used the internet over three months ago, whereas 34% has never used the internet – these are the results of the research conducted by the national statistics service, which includes July of 2018. There has been a 4.3% increase in the share of the population who used the internet throughout the last three months compared to the same period of the previous year. Furthermore, the statistics show that the internet is more often used by men than women: during the last three months, the use of the internet has reached 65.5% among men, however among women it was 62.6%. The internet users in the city reached 75.1%, however, in the villages it was 49.8%. In rural Georgia, use of the internet over the past year has increased by 4.7%. And the number of people who do not use the internet has decreased by -4%.

Use of internet according to the age group is as follows: 15 years of age and over – 62.2%; between 15-29 years of age 93.6%; between 30-59 years of age 71.9%; 60 years of age and over – 21.7%.

Moreover, 89.7% of the population in Georgia uses the internet either every day or almost every day, which is a 3.8% increase compared to the previous year. 8.2% of the population uses the internet at least once a week, and 2.1% uses the internet less often than once a week.

In Georgia, the share of the households with internet access has reached 69.5%, it is worth noting that this indicator is lower compared to the previous year (in 2017 it was 70.7%). The largest share of the population with internet access is situated in Tbilisi (85.5%), followed by Adjara (80.3%) and Samegrelo and Upper Svaneti (66%).

With regards to the share of the population with computer access, in Georgia, 62.1% of the households have access to a computer, which is a lower indicator in comparison to the previous year (64.2%). In urban Georgia, 78.3% of the households have a computer, whereas in rural Georgia only 40.9% of the households have a computer. 82.3% of the population in Georgia use the computer on a daily basis or almost on a daily basis.
