According to the National Wine Agency, between January and August, 52.7 million bottles of wine (0.75 liters) were exported from Georgia to 52 countries, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2017. The total worth of this exported wine comes to 125.5 million USD. This marks a 25% increase in comparison to the same period of the previous year.
There has been an increase in exports to strategic markets for Georgian wine; Japan – 79% (170,700 bottles), Poland – 31% (2,121,474 bottles), Great Britain- 17% (52,732 bottles), USA – 2% (291,640 bottles). In regards to European exports; Romania – 390% (84,654 bottles), Czech Republic – 65% (30,456 bottles), Germany – 32% (339,370 bottles), The Netherlands – 25% (42,735 bottles), Lithuania – 12% (280,338 bottles) ,Latvia – 12% (1,077,696 bottles), Estonia- 2% (336,302 bottles), and on the traditional markets; Kyrgyzstan- 81% (140,317 bottles), Ukraine – 40% (6,070,218 bottles), Kazakhstan- 36%(2,313,378 bottles), Russia- 17% (33,270,854 bottles), Belarus – 12% (1,012,062 bottles), (among others).
The top five countries to which Georgian wine is exported are: Russia (33,270,854 bottles), Ukraine (6,070,218 bottles), China (4,113,328 bottles), Kazakhstan (2,313,378 bottles), and Poland (2,121,474 bottles).
In addition, between January and August, 11.7 million bottles of brandy-type spirits have been exported from Georgia to 21 countries across the world, marking a 19% increase in comparison to the same 8 month period of the previous. Income yielded from the export of brandy-type spirits amounted to 33.9 million USD, an increase of 9%.
During the reporting period, 238.9 thousand bottles (0.5 liters) of chacha have been exported to 24 countries across the world, marking a 80% increase. In total, 692.4 thousand USD worth of chacha has been exported, which is 88% higher than the same period of the previous year.
Overall, the net income of wine, brandy, chacha, brandy-type spirits, and draught brandy exports amounts to 198.2 million USD, which is 19% higher than the same period of the previous year.
