Cargo turnover Increase observed in Georgian ports

In the first five months of the year, 6.7 million tons of cargo passed through Georgian sea ports and terminals, which is 0.2 million tones increase compared to the same period of previous year.

Georgian ports and terminals have seen a tendency of serious downturn in in cargo turnover.

The total turnover by years is the following:

• 2018 – 15.1 million tons

• 2017 – 16.3 million tons

• 2016 – 17.6 million tons

Positive tendency was observed in number of containers, which reached 232 160 TEU units in the first five months of the year. The number of refined containers has been characterized by positive dynamics in the past few years:

• 2018 – 453 938 TEU

• 2017 – 394 787 TEU

• 2016 – 329 805 TEU

The volume of cargo by ports is as follows:

• Poti Sea Port – 3.4 million tons (increase – 0.8 million tons)

• Kulevi Marine Terminal – 0.6 million tons

• Batumi Sea Port – 1.3 million tons (decrease – 0.2 million tons)

• Supsa Sea Port – 1.4 million tons (decrease – 0.4 million tons)

Transport cargoes in Georgia decreased by 0.4 million tons by 2018 and reached 4.1 million tons. In the last 5 years, the turnover in Georgia decreased by 5.3 million tons.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Economy, volume of cargo handled last year has decreased in four port and port of Georgia.
