Cargo Turnover Still Declining In The Georgian Corridor

Within the first 11 months of 2017, total volume of cargo shipped by the transport sector of Georgia made 37,4 mln tons, which is 0,9 tons less than in the same period of 2016.

Within the accounting period, sea ports and sea terminals handled total of 14,9 mln tons of cargo, which is 1,2 mln tons less than in the same period of last year.

Number of containers handled in sea ports has increased and made 355,153 TEU units within the first 11 months of the year.

In the transport sector, cargo turnover has declined only for the Georgian Railway. Within 11 months of the year, the Georgian Railway shipped 9,7 mln tons of cargo, which is 1,2 mln tons less than within the same period of last year. Slightly increased the volume of cargo shipped by motor cars and civil aviation.

Of sea ports, cargo turnover increased only for Poti Port. Within the first 11 months of the year, Poti Port shipped 6,2 mln tons of cargo, which is 0,4 mln tons more than in the same period of last year. Cargo turnover in Batumi Sea Port declined from 5,1 mln tons to 3,8 mln tons. In Supsa Sea Terminal, cargo turnover declined by 0,4 mln tons and the Kulevi Sea Terminal the rate of 1,5 mln tons.

The number of containers handled by Poti Port increased to 289,190 TEU and in Batumi Sea Port – to 65,963 TEU.
