Export Value of Georgian Wine Increases by 22%

During the period of January to September up to 60 million bottles of wine (0.75L) were exported from Georgia to 53 countries.

According to the National Wine Agency, during the period of January to September up to 60 million bottles of wine (0.75L) were exported from Georgia to 53 countries, marking an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2017. The value of exported wine also increased by 22% compared to the same period last year, totaling 142 million USD.

According to the data published by the American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE), Georgia is in 5th places based on the average prices per liter of wine (3.49 USD) during the period of 2014-2016. AAWE is a prestigious American organization and according to their ranking, France is in first place with 6.59 USD, followed by New Zealand (5.39 $), and  in third place is the USA, with 3.68 USD. Austria is in fourth place and one place ahead of Georgia, with 3.51 USD. The following countries are behind Georgia in their rankings: Croatia (3.41 USD), Argentina (3.11 USD), Portugal (3.07 USD), Germany (3.06), Italy (3.06) etc.

There has also been an increase in exports to strategic markets for Georgian wine: Japan – 79% (172 673 bottles), Poland – 32% (2,465,541bottles), Great Britain- 22% (67310 bottles), USA – 2% (291,640 bottles).  In regards to European exports; Romania – 390% (84,654 bottles), Czech Republic – 69% (31050 bottles), Germany – 22% (349216 bottles), The Netherlands – 47% (60,309 bottles), Lithuania 18% (331620 bottles) ,Latvia – 9% (1,245,324 bottles), Estonia- 16% (420704 bottles), Canada – 13%  (119418 bottles), France – 11% (107126), and on the traditional markets;  Turkmenistan – 80% (120294 bottles), Kyrgyzstan- 54% (179610bottles), Ukraine – 27% (6746598 bottles), Kazakhstan- 30% (2658224 bottles), Russia- 11% (37064677bottles), Belarus – 13% (1188822 bottles), Mongolia – 44% (162390),  among others.

The top five export markets for Georgian wine are: Russia (3,706,4677 bottles), Ukraine (6,746,598 bottles), China (4,821,937bottles), Kazakhstan (2,658,224 bottles), and Poland (2,465,541 bottles).
