Resignation of the Prime Minister results in resignation of the Government

As a result of resignation of the Prime Minister, the whole government automatically resigns. According to the Constitution of Georgia, if the Prime Minister resigns or his authority is terminated otherwise, authority of other members of the government shall also be terminated.

Within a 7-day term, the President shall present the candidate selected by the parliamentary majority as a candidate for the Prime Minister’s position. The candidate for the position of the Prime Minister, in his/her turn, shall select candidates to the government within seven days and present the cabinet for further approval of the Parliament. 

According to the Constitution of Georgia, within a seven-day term, the candidate for the position of the Prime Minister shall establish a new cabinet and present it to the parliament for its further approval. He/she shall also submit a government program. Within the next seven days, the Parliament of Georgia shall consider composition of the cabinet and the program and vote. Within at least 4-5 days after the Prime Minister’s resignation and no later than within 21 days new cabinet shall be established.
