The volume of freight transported through the corridors of Georgia decreases

Over the past 7 months of the current year, the volume of freight shipped by the transportation sector amounted to 21,5 mln tons, which is 0,4 mln tons less than within similar period of last year.

The volume of cargo shipped to the sea ports and sea terminals has also decreased and made 9,6 mln tons over the period of January-July 2017, instead of 9,9 mln tons of the similar period of last year. The number of containers handles by sea ports has increased and amounted to 209,464 TEU units by the end of the 7-month period.

During the accounting period, Georgian Railway transported 6,1 mln tons of freight, which is 0,6 mln tons less than within similar period of the past year.

The volume of cargo handled by Batumi Sea Port has decreased and made 2,5 mln tons, while within the same period of last year it made 3,1 mln tons.

Volume of freight handled by Poti Port has increased up to 3,7 mln tons; and by Kulevi Sea Terminal – up to 1,0 mln tons. The volume of freight handled by Supsa Sea Terminal has decreased to 2,4 mln tons.

Btumi Sea Port handles 40,413 TEU units of cargo over the period of 7 months, while Poti Sea Port handled 169,051 TEU units – the number of handled containers has increased in both ports.
