Work on the document of assessment of environmental impact of the Anaklia Port Project has been completed and the Consortium of Anaklia Development starts public discussions on it.
The aim of the project is to develop and activate a container terminal capable of handling approximately 8 mln tons of container cargo annually.
As it is known, the government is committed to ensure construction of railway line leading to Anaklia port. According to the document, the railway line will be laid between Tsatskhvi and Anaklia Villages.
The above railway section will be a branch line of the existing Senaki-Enguri-Gali railway at Tsatskhvi railway station in Zugdidi District. The railway project will cost over 100 mln USD. The high-speed railway line will be constructed to the south from the planned branch-line, parallel to it.
According to the master plan of the Deep Sea Port of Anaklia, the port will be developed within the first phase of project implementation. Port development will continue with the following phases of the project implementation and by 2069 it will be capable of handling 100 mln tons of container cargo, as well as dry and liquid cargos through seven container loading berths and three loading berths for loose/liquid cargos.
